This year Jered & I decided to hold our “First Annual CBG Staff Christmas Party”. We spend so much time in our own kitchen, preparing and serving our own menu and food we thought it would be a great idea to take out our staff for a delicious meal to say thank you for all the hard work this last year.
Edmonton has some amazing local cuisine to offer to it was hard to pick a restaurant! In the end Jered and I decided to take the staff out to a newer restaurant on Jasper Ave called The MRKT, not to be confused with the Beer MRKT in the old Ironhorse building on Whyte Avenue.
We called ahead and the MRKT staff were more than willing to create a custom four course menu for our small group. We started off with their Classic Ribollita soup, which is similar to a minestrone. Then we were served two appetizers, their in house made Ricotta with Apricot Mango chutney and Rosemary Almond crackers, and their Double Smoked Bacon Bruschetta. We had a salad of mixed greens, carrots, suey choy, dried bing cherries, almonds and goats cheese and to finish, the main was an Alberta Braised Beef Papperdelle Pasta with basil, chimichurri, asiago cheese and red wine au jus.
The favorite of the meal was definitely the Double Smoked Bacon Bruschetta. All our staff was really pleased with the food, and the portions were definitely generous. The price was decent at $35 a head, and Jered picked out some lovely wines to go with the food. Since I was very pregnant at the time I had to miss out on the wine, but rejoice! they had some really wonderful non alcoholic beverages to choose from. All in all, a great success for our inaugural staff Christmas party! Already looking forward to next year!
